AMPP/SSPC CAS Level I Prep & Test

This prep course consists of 3 hours of PowerPoint, discussion and study materials to prepare the applicant for the CAS Level 1 test. Upon completion, the applicant will receive all the knowledge needed to pass the test.

Exam Content: The SSPC Coating Application Specialist Level 1 exam consists of basic knowledge of industrial coatings and linings. The written exam consists of multiple-choice questions. To receive a certificate and CEU, you must attain a 70 percent or better score on the exam. Special Note: Level 1 Qualification is not required to move on to the Level 2 Certification Exam. AMPP/SSPC CAS Level II Full

SSPC Coating Application Specialist (CAS) Certification Program allows those in the current workforce the opportunity to realistically achieve certification during the next several years. It focuses directly on the needs of the Application Specialist and provides criteria for the education, training, experience, knowledge and motor skills required to prepare and apply protective coatings to steel and concrete surfaces of complex industrial and marine structures. Facility owners, contractors or certifying agencies may use this program for certification of Application Specialists for other substrates or conditions, as considered appropriate. SSPC has long recognized the industrial painting industry needs a comprehensive craftworker training and certification program designed to create a readily available trained and qualified workforce that will meet ever increasing facility owner demands for quality work completed safely. The industrial painting trade has become a highly technical profession with the introduction of more sophisticated coating systems and the need for qualified craftworkers is greater than ever. (Certification Period: 36 months) (16 hours)

Graco Pump Maintenance

Students will learn the basics of Graco pump use and maintenance. How to properly set the equipment up, basic uses and how to clean the equipment after use. The class also includes basic maintenance of gaskets, pistons and other equipment, as well as the proper PPE to use when working with the equipment. (2 hours)

Industrial Refresher

This refresher course will include 4-hour OSHA safety, fall protection and HAZCOM; a 2-hour respirator certification class/fit test and a 2-hour SAP(Substance Abuse Program). (Certification Period: 12 months.) (8 hours)

4-Hour Lead Awareness

This 4-hour class is an awareness-level course that does not authorize or enable you to abate or work directly with lead or lead products. It teaches hazard recognition, PPE selection and use and regulatory standards established by OSHA and other health and safety organizations.  (4 hours)

Lead Refresher

This 8-hour course is a required class for any member who will be exposed to lead on a non-residential work site. This includes bridges, refineries and many other steel structures. Topics covered include hazard recognition, personal protection with emphasis on respiratory protection, health effects of overexposure and waste removal. This class meets the requirements for first-time non-residential lead workers and meets the annual refresher requirements mandated by OSHA. (Certification Period: 12 months) (8 hours)

Lead/Heavy Metals/Silica/Asbestos Awareness

This 8-hour course is a required class for any member who will be exposed to lead on a non-residential work site with the added awareness of other heavy metals, silica and asbestos. This includes bridges, refineries and many other steel structures. Topics covered include hazard recognition, personal protection with emphasis on respiratory protection, health effects of overexposure and waste removal. This class meets the requirements for first-time non-residential lead workers and meets the annual refresher requirements mandated by OSHA. (Certification Period: 12 months) (8 hours)

AMPP/NACE CIP Level 1

NACE CIP Level 1 is a 6-day course that covers the technical and practical fundamentals of coating inspection work. Students will be prepared to perform basic coating inspections using non-destructive techniques and instrumentation. This course provides students with knowledge and application of coating materials, along with techniques for surface preparation. Classroom instruction is comprised of lectures, discussions, group exercises and hands-on practical labs. Registration is through AMPP.org and the registrant is responsible for the cost of the class. (Certification Period: 36 months) (48 hours)

AMPP/NACE CIP Level 2

CIP Level 2 is a 5-day course that focuses on advanced inspection techniques and specialized application methods for both steel and non-steel substrates, including concrete. The course provides in-depth coverage of surface preparation, coating types, inspection criteria, lab testing and failure modes for various coatings, including specialized coatings and linings. Course content including advanced corrosion theory; environmental controls and advanced environmental testing; centrifugal blast cleaning and water jetting equipment, standards, methods of use and inspection concerns; advanced nondestructive and destructive test instruments; surface preparation, application and inspection of liquid-applied and thick barrier linings; specialized application equipment including plural-component, electrostatic and centrifugal, along with hot spray systems; concrete coatings; specialized coating techniques and application of non-liquid coatings; coating survey techniques and procedures and common coating failure modes. Registration is through AMPP.org, the registrant is responsible for the cost of the class. (Certification Period: 36 months) (40 hours)

AMPP/NACE CCA

A training and certification program designed to meet the requirements for a level 2 certified Coating and Lining Application Specialist set forth in the Body of Knowledge contained within the SSPC ACS 1/NACE No.13 Joint Standard and in accordance with ISO 17024. (Certification Period: 36 months) (8 hours)

Quality Control Specialist

This course discusses quality control basics, application techniques, specific conditions for coating application and mixing one and two-component coatings. Additionally, it will give the student detailed instructions, techniques and cite technical standards relevant for inspecting coating applications with a focus on dry film thickness, adhesion and discontinuities. (Certification Period: 48 months) (60 hours)

Respirator Fit Test

This meets OSHA minimum requirements under the Respirator Standard 29CFR 1910.134. It is comprehensive in that it not only provides instruction on the standard but is offered complete with medical evaluation and fit testing. Participants will take the online medical questionnaire and will be cleared upon completion to proceed with the Respiratory Fit Test. Board-certified occupational medicine physicians review the questionnaires requiring further evaluation. Upon clearance, a Fit Test will be conducted, and the participant will be issued a Respiratory Fit Test Card with Respirator model and size. (4 hours)

Respirator Refresher

This meets OSHA minimum requirements under the Respirator Standard 29CFR 1910.134. The course provides comprehensive instruction on standards and is offered to participants who already completed the online medical evaluation and will be fit-tested to wear a respirator. (Certification Period: 12 months) (2 hours)

Respirator Refresher and SAP

The 4-hour course covers Respirator Training and meets OSHA minimum requirements under the Respirator Standard 29CFR 1910.134. It is comprehensive in that it not only provides instruction on the standard but is offered complete with medical evaluation and fit testing. It also includes respirator testing (half and/or full).

S.A.P. (Substance Abuse Program) training is required for all employees covered under the Construction Industry Program. The training includes instruction on the dangers of substance abuse in the workplace, types of and procedures for testing and the disciplinary policy associated with positive testing. (Certification Period: permanent) (4 hours)

AMPP/SSPC C-3 Supervisor/Competent Person Training for De-leading of Industrial Structures

The course contains specific discussions on protecting workers, compliance with environmental regulations, proper management of waste streams and operations that result in potential exposures to lead and associated control technology. The course also addresses reading specifications and developing programs to effectively control risks to workers, the public and the environment. It concludes with a discussion of insurance and bonding issues and an introduction to other safety and health issues encountered on painting projects.

This course emphasizes a hands-on experience. Each day, participants practice competent personal duties immediately after they are discussed in the classroom, resulting in more interactive discussion between participants and the instructors. Small group settings are used during the workshops to ensure all participants successfully complete each practical exercise. This course is the first in a series of qualifications for SSPC instructors. (Certification Period: Permanent) (32 hours)

AMPP/SSPC C-5 Supervisor/Competent Person Refresher for De-leading/Hazardous Coatings Removal on Industrial and Marine Structures

The course starts with a review of basic information about lead and the human health hazards associated with it. The course continues with a review and update of relevant EPA regulations and progresses through discussions of 29 CFR 1926.62 and changes in the Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134). C5 concludes with discussions about control over emissions as presented in SSPC Guide 6. (Certification Period: 12 months) (8 hours)

AMPP/SSPC Coating Application Specialist Prep (CAS)

The SSPC Coating Application Specialist Certification Program is designed to prepare those individual craft workers who have experience and training in all aspects of hands-on surface preparation and coating application of complex industrial and marine structures, according to the requirements of the SSPC Coating Application Specialist (CAS) Program. This certification program also meets the requirements of ISO 17024. Prerequisites are working as an abrasive blaster and an industrial/marine coating applicator using spray techniques. Work must be verified through an application process of 2,000 work hours plus 150 hours of accepted formal training or 3,000 work hours and 3 years of work experience.
